Our Management Committee

Children by Choice is guided by a dedicated volunteer Management Committee. Each member brings professional expertise, lived experience and a strong commitment to reproductive autonomy. Their governance strengthens our organisation and supports transparent, ethical and values-led decision making.

Toni van Tonder

Interim CEO
Bachelor's Degree, Political Science and Government

With over ten years’ experience in governance, local government, program management, political advocacy and NFP management, Toni is committed to reducing inequitable barriers pregnant people face in accessing the healthcare they need.

Former civic leader of Auckland City Council, Chairperson of a Community Board and Deputy Chair of a statutory co-governance board working with indigenous tribes, she is a fierce champion of diversity and inclusion and breaking down systemic barriers that prevent people from thriving.

Dr Claire Mohr

President and Secretary
MSSB, FRACGP

Claire is a GP working in Victoria Point and provides comprehensive care to a diverse range of patients. She also works with Marie Stopes Australia delivering reproductive health services in Brisbane. Claire is committed to improving access to reproductive healthcare and ensuring people can make informed choices about their pregnancy.

Renee Wyborn

Treasurer
Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Banking and Finance

Renee is an experienced banking professional with more than 15 years’ experience across retail banking, governance, lending and operational management. She has held senior roles focused on enterprise-wide process improvement and system efficiencies. Renee is passionate about advocating for women and strengthening community wellbeing through inclusive economic participation.

Dr Asvini Subasinghe

General Committee Member
PhD (Public Health)

Asvini is a strong advocate for reproductive autonomy, demonstrated through her research in early medical abortion. She brings extensive knowledge in public health, research, and advocacy. Her work supports improved access to abortion services and reproductive health for communities facing systemic disadvantage.

Kelly Sumner

General Committee Member
Bachelor of Social Science (Social Welfare), Graduate Diploma of Psychology

Kelly has more than 15 years’ experience in community organisations, specialising in education, training and capacity building across the sector. Her background includes mental health, sexual violence counselling and domestic violence response. Kelly also has significant governance experience, including five years as Secretary of Zig Zag, a sexual violence and housing support service.

Belinda Lewis PSM GAICD

Belinda has over 25 years’ experience in public sector leadership, focusing on strategy, human services and health equity. She is committed to addressing structural disadvantage and strengthening economic participation for women and girls. Belinda received a Public Service Medal (PSM) in 2025 for her contributions to women’s health, palliative care strategy and Queensland’s COVID response for the aged care sector.

Shimbie Lewis RN AAICD

Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Nursing Science, Bachelor of Education

I am a Registered Nurse with over 24 years’ experience in healthcare, focusing on management, education, and governance. I am dedicated to empowering individuals and advocating for bodily autonomy in healthcare. My leadership experience includes Head of Clinical Education and Nurse Manager roles at MSI and other healthcare facilities across private, not-for-profit, and public sectors. I am an NSQHSS Assessor, have completed the AICD Company Directors Course, and hold degrees in Nursing, Education, and an MBA. I value strong governance and safe, accessible healthcare for all.
