People with a Disability

At Children by Choice, we believe that everyone has the right to make their own choices about pregnancy, parenting, and reproductive health including people with an intellectual disability.

Our website is equipped with accessibility tools that allow you to adjust the website in ways that makes our information more accessible. To change the settings click on the little blue person in the right hand side of the website, select your preferred settings from the drop down box.

We acknowledge that people with disability, particularly women and people with intellectual disability, have too often had their reproductive rights taken away. Many have experienced reproductive coercionforced contraception, or pressure about pregnancy and parentingThis injustice causes deep harm and has denied people the right to make their own decisions about their bodies and lives.

At Children by Choice, we are committed to changing this. Our counsellors provide free, confidential, and non-judgemental support to help you understand your pregnancy options and make the choice that feels right for you.

You can talk with us about:

  • Your pregnancy options: including continuing a pregnancy, having an abortion (ending a pregnancy), or exploring adoption and kinship care (continuing a pregnancy but not parenting a child).
  • How to get the information and support you need to make your own decisions.
  • Your rights to privacy, respect, and safe healthcare.

Children by Choice welcomes calls through the National Relay Service if  you are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech communication difficulty.

Choose your access option and provide our number (1800 177 725) when asked by the relay officer. You can also call the NRS Helpdesk on 1800 555 660 or text 0416 001 350 for assistance.
